In March 2002, West Virginia Public Broadcasting debuted The Griffin and the Minor Canon. This half-hour animated program based on Frank R. Stockton's short story features the talents of numerous West Virginians. Entertainers who supplied voices for the characters include David Selby (the Griffin), Chris Sarandon (the Minor Canon), Linda Purl, John Corbett, Kathy Mattea, Don Knotts, and Soupy Sales. To read more about the project, visit The Griffin and the Minor Canon page in the main section of the site. The program was funded by grants from the West Virginia Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. The official web site features numerous resources for educators wishing to incorporate the production into their classrooms. The screen grabs below were taken from The Griffin and the Minor Canon and the behind-the-scenes featurette about the program. The program uses a variety of animation techniques. Unfortunately, these screen grabs do not accurately reflect the richness of the color in some scenes. All the more reason to buy the video . . .
The videotape is available from West Virginia Public Broadcasting. Special thanks to Brad Stalnaker. |
