On May 5, 2001, David Selby hosted Who Wants to Be a Downtown Winner?, a fundraiser sponsored by Main Street Martinsburg, at Martinsburg High School in the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia. The format of the program was similar to ABC's popular Who Wants to be a Millionaire? series. Twenty-four high school students competed to win a $1,250 scholarship for their school. Local businesses also paid to sponsor teams of players. While in Martinsburg, David contributed his signature to a quilt to raise money for the Walton's Mountain Museum in Schuyler, Virginia. Additional information and images related to David's role on The Waltons can be found in the Photo Gallery. Below is a copy of the program.
The image below comes from the May 6, 2001 edition of the local newspaper, The Journal. Guy Haines posted an account of the event on the alt.tv.dark_shadows newsgroup. You can access this via Google Groups. Both of the above images were provided by Guy. Thanks! Thanks to Guy, Janet, and Loria for providing information, reports, and/or images from this event.
