The 2001 Dark Shadows Festival marked the show's 35th anniversary. The Festival was held in New York City on August 17-19 at the Marriott World Trade Center. Saturday's events included a segment featuring David reading selections from his most recent collection of poetry, Happenstance. (See the Books section of the site for additional information.) This was followed by the cast reunion. On Sunday, David took to the stage with Lara Parker (Angelique) to perform A. R. Gurney's Love Letters. On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center complex was leveled after two hijacked planes crashed into the Twin Towers. The Marriott World Trade Center, located between the WTC's Twin Towers, was demolished. Evacuations of the Marriott, located at Three World Trade Center, were virtually complete before the first tower collapsed. According to a Marriott press release, two employees and twenty of the hotel's 940 guests were lost at the World Trade Center location.
