On April 29, 1997, David Selby appeared in an episode of the CBS series Promised Land, as Rowdy Sullivan, a rancher struggling to come to terms with the loss of his wife. The episode was entitled "Cowboy Blues." An episode summary is available on the Promised Land web site.

This episode marked a reunion with David's former Falcon Crest co-star, Wendy Phillips. Phillips portrayed Lauren Daniels Channing on Falcon Crest and Claire Greene on Promised Land.
